Laura was born in Spain and later moved to Costa Rica with her family. This is where she enrolled in a local dance studio’s weekly hip hop class at 11 years old. What started as one hour a week quickly turned into 15 hours as she joined the studio’s competition team. At 16 she enrolled in the conservatory program— Conservatorio de Artes Escénicas Warehouse Dance Complex. While in Costa Rica, she was a cast member and soloist in Ali Pfleger’s “Maybe This Time’. During her last year at the program, she attended Joffrey Ballet School’s Summer on a 5 week full scholarship; during which she was invited by the Artistic Director (Angelica Stiskin) to join the Jazz & Contemporary Trainee Program on a merit scholarship. So, shortly after graduating from her current program, she moved to New York City and started her training there. Three and a half years later, she completed the program and graduated cum laude with her BFA.
During her time at Joffrey Ballet School, she was invited by Bradley Shelver to join the school’s company— Joffrey Concert Group— for its inaugural season. She remained with the company until her graduation, and since then has remained working with them as Rehearsal Director. While in school, Laura was cast in pieces by Omar Román de Jesús, Greg Lau, Yin Yue, Bradley Shelver, Yoshito Sakuraba, Antonia Francheschi, Gabe Katz, Michael Waldrop, Eric Trope, Lindsay Grymes, and others. She attended festivals like Spring To Dance St. Louis and Bryant Park PICNIC Performances with the school’s company.
Since her graduation, Laura has been freelancing. Based in New York City, she has been performing as well as working as rehearsal director and teacher. Recent performances include Ballet On The Beach Festival (dancer for Eric Trope), Opening of the Perelman Performing Arts Center (directed by Beth Crandall), Bryant Park PICNIC Performances (choreographies by Bradley Shelver), KoDaFe as a dancer for The Mo.vement (Moriah Markowitz), Table Of Silence at Lincoln Center Plaza with Buglisi Dance, Mason Lee Dance Theater’s Season Opening at Abrons Arts Center. She also choreographed an evening-length piece in collaboration with Faith Shover as part of the live concert “For Mum, Dad; DISTANT LETTERS”. As rehearsal director, she works with Joffrey Concert Group and Mason Lee Dance Theater. She is also a teacher at Dance With Miss Rachel, teaching young dancers ages 2-7 years old. Laura has also assisted Bradley Shelver at the Graham School. She is in her first season as a company member with SHIFT under direction of Cherri Thompson.
Laura also works as a model, using her dance training to aid her. She has danced/walked in Helena Magdalena’s Fashion Show, and was a part of Alantude’s Murder Mystery Night for NYFW. She loves to work with photographers and is a model for Andrew French Workshops and has been included in many of Joffrey Ballet School’s Promotional Images (by Michael Waldrop and Rachel Neville). Other photographers she has worked with include Hannah Mayfield, Paul Dubois, DanelPhotography, Joe Dean, ActionPhoto2100, Carlos Belgoderi, and Anthony Collins.
Laura loves to continue training and exploring even now that she is done with school. She recently attended GagaLab at Orsolina28 and BalletBC’s 44. Laura loves to take classes at different studios in the city as well as try new things like pole dance and work on her sewing skills. She’s always open and curious to see where life will take her next.
